UWC Application Steps

Please read through the steps listed below to get an overview of the application process.

Step 1: Check your Eligibility

Before applying, please check your eligibility here. If you require any further clarifications regarding your eligibility please reach out to uwcindia@in.uwc.org.

Step 2: Fill in and Submit your Application Form

The application form will capture your personal and academic information as well as ask you to answer few essay questions. We urge you to spend some time on these essays as they allow us to get an understanding of who you are and your motivation to apply to the UWC movement. UWCs have a strict honesty policy and students must fill the application form by themselves. We expect students to do some research on UWCs and be able to articulate what this opportunity would mean to them. For this we recommend perusing the college websites, social media and YouTube accounts.

All application forms are carefully read by a team of trained reviewers who are associated with the UWC movement and are looking for candidates who show the potential to thrive in the unique environment of a United World College.

Please note that because of the high quality of applications we receive, many strong applications will not be short-listed. A strong academic performance is also a filter all students must pass at the short-listing stage to ensure that the student will be able to cope with the rigour that IB / UWC education demands.

Step 3: Attend the Interview

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to interview with us. The interview takes place at the UWC Mahindra College campus in Pune

Step 4: Submit your Financial Assessment Form

Shortlisted applicants will also go through a financial assessment to determine their family’s ability to contribute to their education. All students attending a UWC are selected on demonstrated academic promise and potential as far as college funds allow. The financial situation of a family comes into play only once the candidates have been shortlisted. Scholarships are offered to students going by their merit rank order with demonstrated need for such financial help. Financial assistance is determined on the review of the Financial Assessment form which is required to be filled up by the parents / guardians of all students shortlisted for the interview.

Step 5: College Allocation

Based on the comprehensive merit list post the interview, UWC India matches offers from each of the UWCs to students, considering their indicated preferences, demonstrated financial need vis-à-vis the UWC offer, donor funds with the UWC Committee etc. Going essentially in the order of merit ranking and matching offers, UWC India nominates students to various UWCs including UWC Mahindra College. If any vacancies come up at subsequent dates in any of the UWCs, further nominations are carried out in the order of the merit list.

Overall, we at UWC Committee of India are aiming for a method of allocating places that will:

1. Reflect UWC mission and values

2. Support a diverse student body

3. Act in accordance with UWC's admissions principles and policies

4. Maximise funds available and allocate them to the most deserving candidates

5. Adhere to the principles of transparency, accountability and responsibility

Step 6: Offer Letters and Scholarship Distribution

Once we have allocated all the places, we will let you know whether you have been shortlisted and if so, which college you have been allocated to. At the same time, we will let you know your contribution towards the fees.

If you are selected to attend a UWC school or college, you will need to agree to abide by the UWC Code of Conduct, as well as any Code of Conduct, put in place by the school or college you attend.
If you are not amongst the first list of shortlisted candidates, you may be offered a place on the waiting list in case any more places become available.
